Membership

Membership in the GMLC is open to individuals providing literacy services in southeastern Wisconsin. Agencies and businesses may become affiliate members.

Member benefits include:

  • The Exchange, a quarterly newsletter highlighting literacy efforts in southeastern Wisconsin
  • Opportunities to stay informed about literacy efforts locally and nationally
  • Information on the latest research in literacy and legislative issues

Membership fees are $25 per year for individuals and $50 for agencies and businesses.

Adult Learning Center
Dedicated to helping adults gain the basic educational skills necessary to achieve a High School Equivalency Diploma and succeed in careers and higher education. We offer a traditional classroom setting as well as one-on-one tutoring to teach basic skills in math, reading. writing and computers.
Adult Literacy Center
Teaches English to foreign speaking students.

Alverno College
Offers ability-based undergraduate and graduate programs within an environment dedicated to the intellectual, personal, and professional development of our students.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee
Provides homework help, reading tutoring and computer education for young people.
Cardinal Stritch University
An urban literacy center serving K-12 students and teachers.
Frank L. Weyenberg Library
Supports the literacy efforts of LCSW and Ozaukee County by providing material on GED, resumes and print materials in a range of reading levels. Private two-person study rooms are available for tutoring.
Goodwill Industries of Southeastern WI, Inc.
The Georgia Susnar Wright Adult Learning Center provides individuals with the resources they need to learn, advance and grow throughout their lifetime. Individualized instruction focuses on helping students increase their academic knowledge while working on building self-confidence.
International Learning Center
Provides literacy and communication skills to refugees who have had little or no prior education in their own country
Journey House
Enriching the lives of community members and their families through education. Classes are offered in basic skills, GED/HSED. GED in Spanish, ESL, computers and family literacy.
Lakeland College – Milwaukee Center
Offers Bachelors and Masters Degree programs in business, education and other areas.
Literacy Services of Wisconsin
Provides literacy education to motivated adults through the efforts of dedicated volunteers.
MATC
Provdes basic skill classes, GED and HSED preparation, ESL classes, and career inventory and counseling.
Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services
Provides adult literacy education to economically and educationally disadvantaged adults living in the Milwaukee area.
Milwaukee Public Library
The Milwaukee Pubvlic Library offers adults help in improving their reading, writing, math, GED and English speaking skills at the following branch libraries: Center Street, Forest Home, Mill Road, and Washington Park.
Multicultural Community Services, Inc.
Offers literacy skills ranging from basic education through GED prep. Themes of family literacy, computer literacy, financial literacy, and library literacy are incorporated into the curriculum.
Next Door Foundation
 
Omega School
Provides one-to-one instructional services to young adults preparing for their GED/HSED credential.
Racine Correctional Institution
Wisconsin Institutions Literacy Council provides tutor training, and classes in parenting, ESL, HSED, ABE and financial literacy.
Racine Family Literacy
Offers adult classes in ABE and ESL. Also offers children’s classes for ages 0-14, home visitation, developmental screenings, and homework assistance.
Racine Literacy Council
Teaches basic reading and writing skills to adults and English to persons whose first language is not English.
Repairers of the Breach
Provides services for the homeless including a learning center.
Silver Spring Neighborhood Center
Offers classes in GED and basic skills for adults as well as a community learning center and an adult computer lab.
St Francis Library
 
UMOS
UMOS, a non-profit advocacy organization, provides programs and services which improve the employment, educational, health and housing opportunities of under-served populations.
Wisconsin Literacy
Supports adult, family and workplace literacy programs statewide through program and resource development, information and referral, training and advocacy.
YWCA Greater Milwaukee
Provides GED instruction and testing. Adult learners can come to the YWCA Community Adult Learning Lab to increase their skills with the end goal of full participation in the economic mainstream of our community.
