Become a GMLC Affiliate Member

The Greater Milwaukee Literacy Coalition was founded in 1986 to promote literacy, advocate for programming resources, and work as an umbrella organization for literacy providers in the Milwaukee area.

In addition to individual members, however, GMLC needs organizational membership. This gives us the authority to advocate on behalf of all service providers. By bringing together the literacy organizations in Southeastern Wisconsin we can

  • speak with one voice to promote policies that further literacy;
  • share resources and serve our members more effectively;
  • improve our communication, reaching more people who are in need of our services and tapping into resources that support our efforts;
  • strengthen the skills of our teachers and tutors so they can provide even better literacy services;
  • expand the scholarship fund already in place for graduating students who want to continue their education.

We invite your organization to become an Affiliate Member of the GMLC. Affiliate membership requires that you contribute $50 annually to the GMLC and allows a voting representative to attend the monthly meeting. Your membership entitles your organization to have a link on the GMLC Web site and your organization’s name to be listed in the quarterly GMLC newsletter. This year, we are renewing our efforts to raise awareness of literacy issues and services in our community through a public relations campaign. Your organization will benefit from this effort.

Current GMLC Affiliate Members are:

  • Indochinese Learning Center
  • Literacy Services of Wisconsin
  • Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services
  • Milwaukee Area Technical College
  • Next Door Foundation
  • Racine Literacy Council
  • Social Development Commission
  • Waukesha County Technical College

If your agency would like to become an affiliate member of GMLC, you can find further information. Or, you can contact the GMLC Membership Committee Chair, Marilyn Hegge, at P.O. Box 511121, Milwaukee, WI 53203-0191.
